
Dr. Hota is certified by the American Board of Surgery and fellowship-trained in Minimally Invasive Surgery with a focus in robotics and foregut surgery. Her areas of interest include robotic-assisted hernia procedures, anti-reflux and hiatal hernia surgery, and management of biliary disease. She is a DMV native and excited to have the opportunity to serve her community.
Dr. Hota was raised in Northern Virginia and attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. She then earned admission to a prestigious Premedical-Medical Program with The Pennsylvania State University (B.S.) and Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University (M.D.) in Philadelphia, PA. After earning her medical degree, she completed her residency in General Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA. Following residency, she pursued a fellowship in Advanced Gastrointestinal and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY.
Dr. Hota has authored over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and she has presented her work at over 40 national conferences. Her most recent research focuses on minimally-invasive surgical techniques in complex abdominal diseases. She has received numerous teaching and research awards and was appointed Education Chief of her residency program. She has served on several committees for national surgical organizations including SAGES, ACS, and the NAPRC.
Having grown up in the DMV, Dr. Hota is committed to giving back to her community by providing the best quality treatment options to her patients. She believes in treating every patient as she would treat a loved one – pairing compassion with an evidence-based approach. She has dedicated her time in training to becoming proficient in minimally-invasive techniques in order to improve patient outcomes and reduce post-operative pain. She has a broad range of clinical interests and treats abdominal and inguinal hernias, biliary disease, reflux, hiatal hernias, and various complex diseases of the intestines.
When she is not working, Dr. Hota enjoys hiking, acrylic painting, and exploring new restaurants. She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and their beagle, Mocha.
