
Dr. Peters and his family recently moved to Loudoun County to be closer to family. Prior to joining Surgical Specialists of Northern Virginia, he was practicing general surgery in Northwest Iowa, about an hour outside of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is on staff at both Stone Springs Hospital Center and Inova Loudoun Hospital.
Since about age 8, Dr. Peters has been interested in how the human body works and how to fix it when it does not. Prior to his career in medicine, he was an international level figure skater, and while initially interested in working with athletes, found his passion in general surgery. He completed his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2008. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2013 before completing his general surgery residency with the University of Illinois at Chicago Metropolitan Group Hospitals in 2018, where he received awards such as Outstanding Intern of the Year and UIC Excellence in Teaching award. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Peters treats a broad variety of general surgical conditions, including abdominal wall and inguinal hernias, gallbladder disease, diseases of the small and large intestine, appendix, and skin. He understands that surgery can be very stressful for patients, and ensures that he takes the time to explain every detail of the surgical process, including what to expect the day of surgery and recovery process, and his patients’ comfort is of utmost importance to him. He has particular interest in robotic and minimally invasive techniques, including use of the DaVinci Xi robotic platform.
When not he is not in the office, Dr. Peters enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two children, as well as extended family in the Chicago and Washington, DC areas. His other personal interests include travel, recreational golf, and cooking.
