Dr. Meikle recently moved to Loudoun County from his hometown near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is excited to join Surgical Specialists of Northern Virginia after practicing outside Pittsburgh for the past 5 years. He is on the medical staff of both Inova Loudoun Hospital at Lansdowne and Stone Springs Hospital Center.
While he decided to pursue medicine at age 14, Dr. Meikle has a passion for music and is an accomplished pianist. He graduated summa cum laude with a dual Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Music from the Joint Music Program at Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Music in Cleveland, Ohio. He went on to obtain his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He remained in the Philadelphia area to complete the General Surgery Residency at Abington Memorial Hospital and the Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at the Lehigh Valley Health Network. He is board certified by both The American Board of Surgery and The American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is an Associate Fellow of The American College of Surgeons, a member of The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and a member of The Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons.
In addition to treating many aspects of general surgery, Dr. Meikle focuses his practice on the expert treatment benign and malignant diseases of the colon, rectum and anus. He is keenly aware of the apprehension that many patients may feel when they need to see a physician for a colorectal surgery problem and strives to make the patient feel as comfortable as possible throughout their treatment course. He enjoys spending time with patients to ensure they fully understand their individual surgical plan. Dr. Meikle has particular interest in minimally invasive/robotic surgery using the DaVinci Xi robotic system for the treatment of colon and rectal cancer as well as benign disease. He also performs diagnostic and screening colonoscopies.
When not treating patients in the office or the operative room, Dr. Meikle enjoys family time with his wife Erin and his extended family here in Northern Virginia. He also enjoys cooking, travel, attending concerts, and playing the piano music of Beethoven, Gershwin and Rachmaninoff. You may run into him and Erin walking Seamus, their Welsh Terrier around downtown Leesburg or having a meal at one of the many dog-friendly restaurants in the area.
