Dr. Lehr completed a breast surgical oncology fellowship at Washington Hospital Center and is the first fellowship-trained dedicated breast surgeon to practice in the entire Northern Virginia area. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, she underwent her general surgical training at Pennsylvania Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Prior to her fellowship, Dr. Lehr served our country for four years as a general surgeon at Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews Air Force Base, and her highly decorated military service included a deployment to Baghdad, Iraq.
Heavily recruited by the Inova Health System during her fellowship, Dr. Lehr also serves as the medical director for the Inova Breast Care Program at Inova Loudoun Hospital, a National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers-accredited facility. She has worked closely with Inova Loudoun Hospital’s medical, nursing, ancillary support and administrative staff to develop a multidisciplinary breast care program of the highest caliber.
In conjunction with her partners from Surgical Specialists of Northern Virginia, Shannon Lehr, MD, FACS founded Breast Care Consultants of Northern Virginia (BBCNV) in August 2009. BCCNV offers a wide range of services for women and men with benign and malignant diseases of the breast. In addition to providing the full spectrum of breast surgical procedures, the practice offers in-office breast ultrasound and minimally invasive core needle breast biopsies and cyst aspirations. Dr. Lehr also specializes in second opinion consultations and in high-risk assessment and design of individualized breast cancer screening protocols for her patients.
